How do I register with SKILLED?

You can now register online with SKILLED to find the job you are looking for.

Once you've registered, you can log in anytime to update your personal details, view previous applications, receive email alerts and search a range of positions in a variety of industries, across the whole of Australia.

What is SKILLED looking for in an employee?

SKILLED is looking for SKILLED workers that display the following quality attributes:

What is the process once I have registered?

Once you have registered you may be asked to attend an interview with an Operations Supervisor to answer a few questions.

If your skills, qualifications work experience and attributes match a vacancy, the Operations Supervisor will then place you in the job straight away.

If there is nothing available at that time to suit you, we will register your details and let you know as soon as an opportunity arises.

Do I have to be an Australian citizen to apply for work with SKILLED?

If you are not an Australian citizen or a holder of a New Zealand passport you will need to hold a current Australian Temporary Working Visa with an entitlement to work.

Do I need Australian qualifications to work for SKILLED?

If you are applying for a job that requires qualifications, SKILLED require you to hold qualifications that are recognised in Australia by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

If you are not an Australian citizen you will be required to obtain an Australian Recognised Trades Certificate (ARTC). For more information, contact the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Do I require experience?

Depending on the type of job you are looking for, you may require previous experience. This will be discussed with you when your application is received.

Do I need to be a member of a union to work for SKILLED?

No, it is illegal for an employer or a union to force an employee to join a union. Equally, it is illegal for an employer to force an employee to quit their union membership.

What if work isn’t available?

If we do not have any vacancies to match your skills, qualifications, work experience and attributes we will register your details and let you know as soon as something comes up.

Attending an Interview at SKILLED

Why do I have to have an interview?

An interview is required in all cases so we can meet you and assess whether you are the right person for the job and make sure you fully understand the job requirements.

What do I need to bring to the interview?

Bring with you some proof of identity and your original qualifications. If you have a resume, you can bring that too as it will help you complete the application form.

Do I need to bring a resume to the job interview?

A resume is not essential although it might assist you when completing the job application. If you need help writing your resume, you can refer to our resume tips page.

WORKING FOR SKILLED

Am I too old to work for SKILLED?

SKILLED is an equial opportunity employer. We have no age limit.

Do I need a Tax File Number (TFN) to work for SKILLED?

You do not need a TFN to commence work with SKILLED although if one is not provided, your wage will be taxed at the highest marginal tax rate.

Would I start immediately?

Depending on the job, you may be asked to start immediately.

Will I be asked to work locally or are there opportunities to work in different locations?

You will generally be placed somewhere that is easily accessible to you depending on the transport options available to you.

What are the rates of pay?

SKILLED employees generally enjoy above-average incomes. Your rate of pay will be discussed with you at the time of employment.

If I get a job through SKILLED, who is my official employer?

SKILLED is your official employer.

Does SKILLED offer apprenticeships?

Yes, SKILLED currently has approximately 520 New Apprentices in training or who have recently completed a national qualification*

Once you have completed a new apprenticeship with SKILLED you have the opportunity to move into our Labour Hire work force and utilise the skills and knowledge you have gained during your training.

Do I require my own tools?

Qualified Tradespeople are required to provide their own hand tools. In most cases, a tool allowance is paid.
